The aim of the design, a competition entry, is to create a simple, effective and effortless way for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the busy Jan Shoba Street safely. It becomes a threshold landmark and a creative opportunity to raise the public profile of the University of Pretoria. The architecture of the bridge is light, minimalist and simple, the detailing contemporary but timeless. The visual impact of the bridge complements the immediate built environment. The structural design is an innovative steel space-frame, symbolic of the technical abilities and innovation constantly developed at the University of Pretoria.
